Anarchy's Rogue Rubikan - Episode 1
Rogue Rubikan Causes Chaos in Old Athen

Old Athen is a quaint town with amenities that support the needs of the community. Since arriving on Rubi-Ka, I have found it to be quite amenable to establishing a home base away from our organization's city. There are times after a hard day of work at The Rubika Times as a Reporter that I enjoy taking a walk along the streets to appreciate the night air, as well as the universe sky that often presents a most colorful canvas.

Once in a while, I will stop by Mongol Meats for a Bronto Burger if I just do not feel like cooking. You can also find me indulging in a decadent treat from the Junk Food Bar where I have enjoyed the professional services of the Clan Party Mixer. However, I have recently learned that there seems to be a rogue Rubikan running around Old Athen harassing vendors and street personnel. The Clan Party Mixer at the Junk Food Bar gave me the heads up, so being the ever seeking news reporter that I am, I thought I would take it upon myself to do a bit of undercover work and investigate the activities of this rogue Rubikan.

I knew that I had to be crafty, and pretend to be a disinterested citizen so that I did not alert him to my real mission. I was relatively new on staff at RKT, and did not think that I would be recognized as yet. The plan was to stand in the shadows so he would not be distracted by my presence, because it would be crucial to get the photo evidence needed to alert the community. I did not want to involve other citizens because of the potential danger it might pose. I had to be on my best game though, because apparently, this rogue Rubikan uses disguises to keep the vendors and street personnel from readily recognizing him, and less suspecting of his activities.

Well, I am happy to report that my undercover work is proving to be successful, and I managed to capture a few incriminating photos that show the persistence of this rogue Rubikan bully. My first piece of evidence came when I was casually walking across the lawn by a tree and heard someone shouting. As I turned toward the shouting, there stood what I was sure was the very person I was looking for, raising his hands in the air and yelling "Death to Vendors."

His incredibly odd costume also seemed to be a dead giveaway that I was willing to bet fit into the disguise strategy the Clan Party Mixer was talking about. I made my way past this vision of confusion, and exhibited a disinterested demeanor, but not without clicking the shutter on my hidden camera.

I was certain I was onto something, and as I walked further away from his consistent shouting that was basically being ignored, I knew I had better not go too far so that I could monitor his movements and catch him in the act ... and so I did.

While this boisterous menace took pride in his shouting, I moved along and took position in the shadows behind an adjacent tree, but still within earshot. I knew his prime target was generally the Clan Party Mixer for some reason, so I also knew (and hoped) that he would most likely pass my position on the way to the Junk Food Bar. My assessment was correct, and as I sat in the lush grass behind the tree, I was able to capture his sprint down the walkway toward what I anticipated to be yet another altercation with the Clan Party Mixer.

As I rose to make my move to follow, I was surprised when he suddenly stopped short, and seemingly began shouting something at the vendor behind the counter at Mongol Meats. I could not make out the words, but it appeared to be serious. I moved into a better position, which went unnoticed due to the intense shouting now from both of them. I was only able to catch bits and pieces, but it seemed to be related to bad meat and someone's sister.

This started to become intriguing, and perhaps something more involved than just some rogue citizen harassing local vendors. The confrontation soon escalated, which ultimately ended up in weapons being drawn, and not a sight I relished witnessing.

Unfortunately, the rogue Rubikan prevailed, and the Mongol Meats vendor met his death. However, as we all know, death is temporary due to advanced scientific technology. Insurance Terminals scan our DNA at the time of use and when we die, it automatically creates an exact clone based on the DNA stored. There is a minor side effect though. Upon reviving, our soul is tricked into thinking that the cloned (and healthy) body is the original vessel, but we wake up exhausted because of the strain on our bodily systems that go through the molecular reconstruction so quickly, and it takes us a bit of time to recover.

Death and revival aside, the key question was, whether or not this rogue Rubikan would be back to cause more harm. I got the distinct feeling that there was just a bit more to this bullying business than meets the eye, and my determination to uncover this mystery became more intense as I continued to witness the activities unfolding before me. In fear of being discovered, I stepped back a bit, but still in clear sight of any movement. I engaged the zoom lens in order to get a close-up shot of any further action. It was important for the community to see exactly what this menace was up to.

The rogue Rubikan seemed to make one last statement, along with an arm gesture of sorts, and all I could make out, but barely, was something like "I win," and caught the word brother this time.

This escapade has become more than just random harassment of local vendors and street personnel, and seems to be steeped in mystery as to why such activities continue. This could be something bigger than I ever imagined, and now I was more determined than ever to uncover the truth about this rogue Rubikan.

For now however, I must get this initial report off to my Editor at The Rubi-Ka Times so that I can inform the community to be ever vigilant in their activities around Old Athen. I am getting the feeling that this rogue Rubikan does not care who he takes on, and seems angry enough to expand his activities further than vendors and street personnel, even perhaps to other cities. Be safe my fellow Rubikans, and do not try to take matters into your own hands, it is far too dangerous. I will be back soon with an updated report on what I have uncovered in this continuing saga.

StarChaser9
Rubi-Ka Times Reporter
Jan 2, 2009

DISCUSSION OF EPISODE 1 HERE
(you must be a member of the JSA forum to view)

.
